Why this role is under new pressure in 2026. After the NEET-UG 2026 cancellation over an alleged paper leak, the Centre announced a top-to-bottom revamp of the National Testing Agency.

A task force chaired by Nandan Nilekani was appointed in July 2026.

Parliament also passed the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.

It raises imprisonment for exam malpractice to 5-10 years and service provider fines to Rs 5 crore.

None of this binds a state university directly. All of it changes what an auditor, a court or a parent will expect from your examination office.
